Day One Hundred Seventy Four

Baby, It's (Almost) Cold Outside

The weather has finally cooled a bit here in Central Florida. All the way from 99 to about 89 degrees. A cold front is coming through which should take us down to about 82. To us that is a frigid temperature. When your body is used to temperatures hovering just slightly above the average body temp, anything a degree or five lower is really cold. Why, the grocery stores have already stocked fake fireplace logs! I have the windows open, and I feel a cool breeze.  Oops, that may actually be the a/c blowing on me! -
I'll be right back...

A Floridian when the temperature
drops to 80 degrees

The windows open also means the cats are out on the screened porch. They love the freedom! I actually saw my no-nonsense guy, Fancy, playing with a cat toy! Of course, as soon as he saw me watching him, he pushed it away like, "Damn thing was in my way - I was just moving it. Yea. That's it - I don't play with stupid cat toys. Pfft."

The toy

The cat who never plays with toys.
Dash and Finn were intently staring into the pool, so I figured I should go check it out. Sure enough, there was a tiny toad floating with his arms and legs splayed out. I was sure he was a goner, but when I scooped him out, he sprang to life. While I was transferring him to the safety of the backyard, I noticed a tiny lizard frantically scaling the screen. I scooped him up as well and deposited him in the backyard, too. The cats were sitting at my feet glaring at me for ruining their fun.

You won't let us catch anything!

Don't take my picture
when I'm mad at you!
I am so bored -
there's nothing to do here...

And where's the funny looking cat
with the big ears that lives in this box?
Someone said I must feel like Dr. Doolittle with all the creatures living here. I could actually bring in a few more. I want a female cat to rescue me from all the testosterone wafting around here. I also really want a lizard - one of those bright green ones I saw at Petco. I think they're beautiful and I just love the energy of a lizard. I would also like to get an Amazon Gray. The problem with me getting a parrot is it would most likely outlive me. I guess I could plan on my granddaughter taking care of it in that event. Hmmmm.

Speaking of grandkids and my demise - the other day when I had picked the kids up from school we determined they had not packed pajamas. This now required a trip to Target. Now, my husband thinks they intentionally did not pack pj's, knowing Geege would take them to...Target.

As we were leaving with pajamas and a whole lot more, my granddaughter thanked me and declared me the best grandmother ever. (Sure, kid - say that when I'm old and drooling on myself....) Anyway, she also said she hoped I lived a long time. I then said I hoped to live long enough to see their children someday - my great-grands. We may as well have been skipping along with bluebirds flying around our heads; it was such a precious moment...

As with so many sweet moments with kids, somebody usually ruins it by dropping a stink bomb! Without skipping a beat, our not-so-subtle, six year old grandson looked up at me and said, "Wait a minute. You'll be dead by the time we grow up and have kids!" Picture his sister and me looking at him like he shot one of our bluebirds. He just shrugged it off, kept walking and mumbled, "I'm just sayin..." (By the way, along with his dark brown eyes, he inherited the shrug from his grandfather! I'm not telling from whom he got the "Just sayin" line.)

He gets one more before he's outta the will. Just kidding! Hey - at the rate I'm spending money on them now there won't be anything left for them to inherit! Except maybe a crotchety old parrot who only knows swear words!! I'm just sayin...
