Day One Hundred Sixty One

October!

Today is October 1. I love this month! When we lived in PA, October brought prime viewing for those Fall leaves. Here, it means cool(er) weather is hopefully, possibly, maybe coming. And the sky is different. Seems higher or something. Anyway, even though football season has been ruined for me, I still have Halloween...

Miss Rooney slept with us last night as in - in the bed - slept with us. She has a funny habit of not resting herself until everyone is settled where they're supposed to be. So, when we were in bed, and she kept pacing, I asked her what was wrong. She wanted to get in bed with us is what. She jumped up and snuggled in. Neither of us had the heart to tell her to leave. I was mentally preparing to leave myself and sleep in another bed - but she surprised us. Maybe because she didn't want to get kicked out of bed, she made her 142 pound self as small as possible and never moved a muscle. It was easier to sleep with her than with the cats!

Speaking of the cats, they did get outside time after all yesterday. And they had so much fun! Fortunately, no lizards were caught. They got so tired out from their adventure, they are still worn out.

The only misadventure to report is that Dash has decided to test his bravery against Jack. Several times last night he approached the sleeping giant and, as if he was operating under a dare, he did various things to provoke him. First of all, he dove off the couch and landed on Jack, then bounced off him like he was a springboard! Jack sat up and looked around like, "What the hell? Who did that?" Then, when Jack went back to sleep, Dash slowly approached him and smacked him on the head! Of course, after each event, Dash would run as fast as he could so Jack never really caught him in the act. All Jack saw was poor, clueless Chance sitting there, so I'm sure he figured it was him.

I'm really losing my patience with you
and your little cat, too!
I am the Mighty Dash!
Nothing scares me!

The final act was also the scariest. Jack moved from the floor to his bed, where he could keep one eye open and wait for the culprit to strike. Dash came tearing out of the front bedroom, flew over the gate and collided with Chance. He jumped straight up into the air and landed right in front of - Jack. Andy and I were ready this time to intervene. He yelled at Jack; I yelled at Dash and everybody ran in different directions! Even though it was hilarious, my heart was pounding. I'm making an appointment today for Dash to get his brass balls removed. It's either that or I need tranquilizers for Jack and me.
