So the other day, I was doing laundry and went to put a load into the dryer. Right before I started lobbing wet clothes into it, I was stopped in place by the sight of Finn's big blue eyes blinking back at me - from inside the dryer! As I do so many times each day, I stood there in stunned silence, trying to comprehend what was going on. I also wondered what would have happened had I not seen those eyes and just buried the guy in wet clothes, slammed the door shut and turned on the heat. That happened to a friend's cat. It did not survive.
Now, Finn is the most beautiful cat. The only sounds I've heard him make are sort of soft, whiny complaints when I make him relinquish one of his "catches." As he watches it get away, he will cry to himself, sort of like, "oh, gee...I worked so hard to catch that...why did she make me drop it?" That's about it. He is quiet, sweet, and very ethereal. That is the perfect word to describe Finn. I don't know how he got into the dryer; I'm just glad his eyes are like tiny blue beacons and I saw them in time.

Of course, he-who-sees-all-and-must-do-the-same-or-better, had to see what all the fuss was about. He jumped into the dryer as I was escorting Finn out of the laundry room. Dash took his time exploring the cavernous space. I was onto this trick by now, so I got my camera and snapped a few shots before plucking him out of there and explaining to him it was a very bad place and he should never go in there - ever!
Hmm - she's not screaming or flapping her arms - so this must be okay. |
Dash has to do what his brothers do. If it looks "cool" then, without a doubt, he must do it and try to do it better. Like catching things; real or pretend. He can't stand it when somebody is quicker, faster or simply in the right place at the right time. He is lightning fast, so he usually "wins," but sometimes they do something he's never tried before.
The whole outdoor thing has been quite a learning experience for him. Fancy just watches him as if thinking, "Look at that kid, acting like he's exploring the Serengeti. Go ahead and put him 'out there' then see what happens. He has nooo clue..."
