Day Two Hundred Sixty Five

Black Coffee, no Sugar or Cat Hair, Please

Today is Wednesday. I know this because it is also trash collection day. Our county has gone to a once a week pickup and provided us with enormous trash cans which are now loaded onto a truck with on a lift gate instead of ruining the back muscles of a person. It's a whole thing. Anyway, I ran out to add cat litter waste to the can before pickup. My squirrels were already waiting for me. I can't resist them when they sit there with their little hands clasped in front of them; hoping I will give them some peanuts. Which I did. Plus fresh water.

That's when I noticed the cat strolling past the house. A beautiful cat that looks like a cross between a raccoon and a Siamese cat. I called to it, to no avail. On the off chance this is a feral/stray, I ran inside and filled a bowl with food. Now, my kitties have already had breakfast, and were outside playing - or so I thought. When can opener met can, they all magically appeared in front of me. I just shook my head and carried on.

I worry about strays and ferals when the weather is extreme - hot, cold, stormy, etc. Time for me to set up the outside kennel where somebody can get some warmth. Here are some quick and easy ideas for an outdoor shelter:

Gee-zoo! Eli just jumped onto my (old, wobbly, antique) desk; stepped on my computer and almost knocked my coffee off the desk before launching himself onto the cat tree. He is sitting there looking at me with that, "What?" look cats are so good at. I now need a fresh up of coffee without cat hairs in it....

Oh, get over yourself and just deal with it!

Like I said, the weather has been cool (for Florida) so the bunny has extra covering at night. I wheeled her hutch onto the porch the other night and narrowly missed sending it into the pool. The wheelie things on the legs have a mind of their own and are either going in the opposite direction or just abandoning their post altogether.

I finally got her situated on the porch and put a quilt over the cage - in addition to the weather-proof covering which is already there. I found one designed for covering porch furniture that fits pretty well. I also put an extra blanket in her little room so she's all snug at night.

I remember when I was a kid in Pennsylvania. We had Dutch rabbits who lived in their hutch outside all year long. My father filled their hutch box with straw and they seemed fine through the coldest winters. Andy laughs at me when I want to bring the rabbit in at night when the temperature drops to 40.

Rooney did not want her Dad to leave today. She really hates it when he's gone and pretty much puts herself on hold until he gets back. Poor baby.

He was just here, in this very chair.
Now he's gone and life is not worth living...

Well, I'm not feeling very funny today so I will end with a "head scratcher." When I walked into the family room this morning, I noticed something on the floor which did not belong there. It was a framed photo. Only the frame was on the floor and the photo was out of the frame. This means the perp not only knocked the picture to the floor but also removed the photo. When I looked up to the shelf where the photo had been, I saw all of the rest of the frames - five in all - flat down on the shelf. I'm pretty sure I know the culprit. It was the little kitten-who-could - do damage that is. She was all over those shelves yesterday and, it appears, most of the night.

Oh, and she is now teaching otherwise well-behaved kitties some of her tricks. I had to get a step ladder yesterday to get her down from the kitchen cabinets where we installed lighting years ago, and did not want her to get caught in the wires. I had just gotten her down, when I heard Andy say, "You'll never guess who's up there now!" I expected him to say Boo! had stubbornly gone back up or maybe Dash followed suit. No, it was Finn! My sweet, never does anything wrong, baby is learning bad things from our tiny wonder. Life will never be the same...

It's impossible to stay mad at Miss Cuteness!
