Big day in Matchettville. First of all, Boo! is getting spayed today and Rooney is getting prep work done for her upcoming surgery. Yikes!
It's too quiet when Boo!'s not here. |
To prepare for her surgery, Boo! had to stop eating at 9 p.m. last night. That was a laugh. Despite having been warned all day that they better eat up - food was going away at 9 - do you think they listened? Of course not. They all ignored their food all day, then at 9, when I took everything away and even swept up crumbs, everybody came looking for a snack. They were trolling the countertops, looking for anything edible. And, of course, they all started yammering at me. "Wait. Where's our food? We're starving! Where did you put our food? We're all going to di-eeeee!"
Since Boo! was sound asleep in the front bedroom, I decided to give the rest of them a snack. Despite acting like a jewel thief, carefully removing the bag from the cupboard like I was tweezing a 10 carat diamond from a sensor plate, no sooner did I get the bag out when Boo! came flying out of the room - wide awake. I had no choice but to pick her up and shut her in the room. I felt awful. The rest of them ate their treats like they hadn't food in a week.
I was so nervous about her, I even dreamed she somehow got into the aquarium and, because she was starving, ate Copper! I woke up in a cold sweat and ran out to make sure I had secured the aquarium doors properly. These animals are going to kill me one way or another - either by tripping me or by the heart attack or stroke I'm destined to have worrying over them.
This morning was a regular three ring circus. Everybody was waiting outside the bedroom door for breakfast. Picture six little Oliver Twist's with bowls in their paws pleading, "Please, sir, I want some more." Considering four out of the six cats are morbidly obese, I didn't feel too bad. I waited until Andy had taken off with Boo! then I fed everyone else.
In the meantime, I had to collect Rooney's urine to be tested. Of course, the scoop I use to do this was not clean, so that had to be washed first. Then I had to run out the door behind her so I could get the scoop into place. Then I had to navigate back through the door with Rooney pushing past me to get back in; Jack pushing past me to go out - all the while trying not to spill dog pee all over myself. I managed to get most of it into a jar and moved on to the next order of business which was to get the dogs fed.
The fun doesn't stop there. I am waiting for a plumber to fix the leak under the sink. I'm sure that will mean replacing the garbage disposal. Whatever it involves will no doubt cost $500. Boo's surgery is a whopping $330! and Rooney's prep work will be another $250 - so this is going to be a Thousand Dollar Day without me ever leaving the house!
