Day Three Hundred Thirteen

Big Day at Our House!

Oh, it's a big day here! Yoog! Why there should be fireworks and confetti. What is happening that is so exciting?? I changed the litter in Copper's aquarium.

There is a rhythm which makes things work here. If that rhythm is broken, things quickly devolve into chaos. This is why I feed the cats first, then the dogs, and when the dogs go outside, the cats follow. This is my opportunity to take care of Copper without my "helpers." The thing is, Boo! and Dash have a sixth sense about all things lizard.

All nice and clean...

They (B and D) can appear to be completely entranced by something outside like a squirrel hanging from the pool screen, or a leaf floating in the pool. But, no sooner do I get the cricket keeper out and open the top of the aquarium, when they both are right there, next to me as though they morphed there.

Boo! tries to squeeze her little self into the smallest space so she can get the best view of the creature in the glass box. To try to block her from that space, Andy placed a rather heavy statue on the hearth, thinking it would deter her from hanging on that spot on the shelf. Well, she was very pleased with his decision because she now has a perfect place on which to perch and get a better view. It is so cute to see her balancing on her tippy toes craning to see what is up with the bugs and lizard.

I needed to change the substrate in the aquarium which, on a scale of 1-10, with ten being the most exciting thing in the world, this is a -1. All I do is shovel out the old and pour in the new. Well, according to Boo! and Dash this was the single most interesting thing that's ever happened around here. They were pushing each other off the statue to get the best view. Boo! has somewhat of an advantage because she can get into places he cannot. I swear she has the hinged bones of a rat.

Of course, I made a mess of it. These days, when it comes to manual things that require some dexterity, I look like a pre-schooler trying to use scissors for the first time. There was sand everywhere. I always end up cleaning up after I've cleaned up. I managed to get the job done and the excitement was over. Boo! and Dash went back out to see if any aliens have landed in the yard.

On another note, Fancy hasn't left my side since my meltdown yesterday over Poco. He goes everywhere I go. At the moment, he is keeping me company on my desk. Eli gets jealous, especially of Fancy, and he decided to join us. The desk is small. There is only room for the laptop and maybe one cat. Eli started out like he was going to be sweet and began grooming Fancy. In a split second, his true plan emerged, and he launched into an assault, with hissing and teeth bared.

I've said this before, but it bears repeating - Fancy won't start a fight but he'll damn well finish one. He sat up, shook his head and simply put his arm out, keeping Eli at arm's length. It was the gesture of a guy saying, "Look, dude, stay back. I really don't want to have to kill you today." Eli thought about it, then moved on. I need to give him some special attention today.

Poor Eli is not happy.
