Crazy stuff happens here on a regular basis. Funnier, sometimes, than the actual scenario, is Andy's telling of it. For example, my perspective on the events of yesterday went something like this - Andy poked his head in the bedroom and told me I needed to come out because "a cat" had gotten into the lizard's cage. He was very calm. Too calm.
If I had been the one to find this, and needed to summon him, it would have gone something like this - "Oh My God! Andy! Get up! Hurry! Boo! is in Copper's terrarium!" Arm flapping would have been involved as well.
I learned later, when I overheard Andy telling the contractors who were here installing the mantelpiece, his version of what happened, I laughed till I nearly passed out. It went something like this, "Yea, I was trying to get out of the house and it was still dark. I heard this funny noise so I grabbed my cell phone and turned on the flashlight so I could see. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I saw a cat in the lizard's thing. There was the poor lizard cowering in fear, like Tokyo with Godzilla attacking it. I'm not touching that thing so I ran in to get Patti. She was snoring away (he added that for effect) but I didn't care. I tried to be real calm and I said, 'Patti, you need to come out here. Your cat is in with the lizard.' Then I snuck out the door. Hey, I can't deal with this shit."
He had the guys roaring with laughter. I mean, what guy hasn't had to dump a disaster in his spouse's lap and bolt? Right? Solidarity!
Whatever....
Life is funny. They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I say what doesn't kill you or somebody else, makes for a great story. We laugh constantly at the ways in which these creatures manipulate us and deal with each other. Like Rooney squeezing her fat butt in between Andy and Jack when she wants to sit next to her dad on the couch. Or Dash searching all over the house for Boo!, with a worried look on his face, when he hasn't seen her in awhile. Or Boo! sitting inside the case of water bottles on top of the fridge and Eli bopping her on the head, just because it made a cool sound, I guess.
Dash watching over his baby sister |
Moments after I snapped these pics, Eli jumped up and started bopping Boo! on the head over the plastic. Made a cool sound I guess. |
Yesterday, while the guys were working, I put all six cats in the front bedroom. For some reason, despite telling people you have cats, they still walk in and out leaving the door wide open! Anyway, Fancy was the last cat to go into the room. He was not happy about it either.
I've written about how verbal he is. Well you would have thought he was a little kid, being told to go to bed, yelling, "Nooooo! Don't make me go in there! I'll be goooood! I promise!!!" Now, he's a big cat and very heavy. He also knows the spinning trick, where a cat (and kid) make their body go limp and then twist around making it almost impossible to hold onto them. I did manage to hold on and get him into the bedroom. The other five looked at us like, "Uh oh. He's here. And he doesn't look happy." When the guys left and it was okay to let the cats out of the room, Fancy gave me a look that let me know I was in big trouble.
I happened to mention to the contractors that I had to solve the problem of Boo! and Copper. I was thinking of moving Copper to our bedroom but I really like having her in the family room. I play with and fuss over her all day. I do. Anyway, guys love to solve problems and one of them told me a decorative screen would work. He had to make a run to Home Depot so he bought a piece. It goes over the top of the lid and is virtually claw proof. Keeping my fingers crossed. Boo! is a very intrepid little creature and doesn't give up easily.
