Day Seventy One

Brother's Zen; Dash Bored

Everybody (except Dash) is happy this morning. Don't ask me why. Maybe it has to do with planets aligning, or the weather. Who knows. All I care about is that there have been no fights and the brothers are into grooming each other. And, they're all calm. Come to think of it, maybe I should be worried...

Dash is. He is pacing like a tiger looking for a kill. I don't think he likes the Zen brothers. He much prefers it when somebody is chasing him or at least acting like they're alive. He is trying to get a rise out of Finn. All Finn wants to do is relax. The aerial acrobatics Dash performs, as he tries to entice his brother into playing with him, are hilarious. They just aren't working this morning. He has turned his attention to his imaginary playmates. They aren't as much fun as a real ones, but they seem to be unpredictable.nbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb67/
(This is what happens when Dash is bored and Mom is distracted.)

So Dash turned his attention to his third choice - behind his real brothers and his imaginary playmates - the humans. He knows we like to tap on the flat things on the table, so he likes to give it a go, just to see what all the fuss is about. There are several cool things about the table. First of all, that's where the food is. Second, it's fun to walk on the flat things and see the humans go crazy. (See above.) Then, he has a slight height advantage over the big dog. He likes to take advantage of that. Jack just shakes his head and walks away muttering to himself.

It took awhile, but Dash finally figured out a way to get somebody's attention. He climbed into a space in the back of the couch. Nobody saw him go in there. So when Eli just happened to be walking by, and Dash reached out and swatted him, Eli didn't know what hit him. When he figured it out he looked at me like, "Did you see that? Are you gonna do something about this?"  I just laughed and got out my camera. Then brother Finn got in the action. I have a three minute video I can't upload anywhere, showing the most hilarious footage of Dash running back and forth on the inside of the couch, periodically swatting at anybody sticking their face in the hole to see what's going on. I will post stills but they just don't capture the craziness of the whole thing.

And, just like a kid, Dash's favorite playthings are not the expensive toys and gadgets I bought. No. Instead, he loves boxes and toilet paper tubes. I will hear him playing with something, hoping it's a new toy. But no, I find him happily rolling around with a cardboard tube or jumping out of a box hoping to scare somebody. I have come to recognize the thwap of the box lid when he jumps in. Then the squeal of a victim he's managed to scare.

First update: Chance has only had one "accident" since our session with the Animal Communicator. Yay!! He makes a point of using the box when he knows I'm watching.

Second update: Fancy and I had a good chat yesterday. He followed me into the bedroom and the two of us had some alone time. He loves it when it's just the two of us. He twirls around like a little kid and gets very chatty. I said, "You doin ok?" His response was, "Sure! I don't mind the little guy. He's fun to watch." Then I asked him if he understood that he's different than everybody else? His reaction was, "I know that! You're my person and I'm your buddy. You really need to quit worrying so much. It makes you sad. Be happy!" Then he twirled around and headed for the door, knowing he would probably get a treat for being so darned cute.

P.S. Happy birthday, Elle!
