Day One Hundred Forty Four

Monster Blood

It was an interesting weekend. The grandkids were here for most of it. I have already shared some of the highlights, like Dash with our granddaughter, but there were a few things that happened after I posted.

First of all, it was a weekend spent watching cartoons. Poor Pap is the one who suffers most from this. I enjoyed watching R.L. Stine's, "Goosebumps," with my granddaughter telling me what was going to happen next in each episode, and my grandson curled up next to me in Gigi's big, comfy chair. (I want to be buried in that chair so I can spend eternity in total comfort.) Pap went to the store for supplies for his e-cig. He puffed on that a lot this weekend.

I wondered at how their parents keep enough food stocked because, no sooner would they finish eating something, they would turn around and declare starvation. It was a non-stop feeding frenzy. I could not keep up with the demand. The next time they come by, I am just going to pitch a tent in Publix. I'm sure they won't mind.

Our grandson and granddaughter have a typical sibling love-hate relationship. She is nine and he is six. Most of the time, we have to remind her she is not a third parent. Many times she would like to get him a one-way bus ticket to just about anywhere. But when push comes to shove, they both have each other's backs.

While we were in the middle of a Goosebumps marathon, E had to go to the bathroom, which is ten feet from the family room. He seemed a bit hesitant, and needed reassurance. I could have said, "It's okay honey. Gigi will come with you." What I said instead was, "You're okay. Just don't look behind the shower curtain!" He came flying out of there so fast, I think he set a speed record. My granddaughter, who is typically on his case day and night, turned to me and sternly demanded, "Now why on Earth would you scare him like that!?" Spoilsport.

After a few minutes, I realized it had been awhile since I saw our grandson. He is not one for long goodbyes, and has been known to just walk out the door. I didn't want to panic, but was starting to. I kept asking, louder and louder, "Where's E?" I was just about to run out the front door, when the little stinker jumped out from his hiding place and scared all of us. He was triumphant. It took awhile for my heart rate to
return to normal. Score tied.

After the kids left and we did a cursory cleaning up, we settled down to watch grownup TV. This is usually when we fall fast asleep and wake up the next morning wondering what happened. Andy was in his spot on the couch with Jack next to him, taking up every last bit of couch space. Rooney wasn't happy. I was in the kitchen, so she jumped into my chair, then thought better of it and quickly jumped back down. She looked at the couch, then sat in front of her dad, staring a hole through him. He had to get up and ask Jack to move over a bit. Jack complied, which led us to believe he knows exactly what he's doing. Rooney then jumped up next to her dad and proceeded to show her gratitude by licking his ear and snuggling down as close to him as possible. It was hilarious.

Everybody is subdued this morning. The dogs are snoring and the cats are enjoying some outside time. They need it after this weekend. Gigi is on her fifth cup of coffee and may get out the Halloween decorations. I have waited all year for this and I'm going to enjoy it as long as I can.
