Before I write today's entry I want to say a few words to my friend who lost her sweet Savannah today. There are no words to take away the pain of loss. There is nothing anyone can do either, except to say, "You were made better for loving this sweet, gentle soul. The love you shared is in her eyes.."

It's important to note, I wrote this before I found out about my friend's loss. I'm struggling to be funny right now - remembering all who have loved and lost.
A Chill in the Air
It's a bit brisk this morning - in the 40's - which is frigid for Florida. Hey, I'm not complaining! I love it when the temperature is anywhere less than a human's body temperature.
As I wait for Rooney to finish up in the yard, I am stupidly shoeless, which is the case most of the time. I begrudgingly put them on when I am going to the grocery store or a restaurant. Otherwise, I hate to wear shoes. I also have a bit of foot-claustrophobia in that I can't stand to have things stuck to my feet. No lace-up shoes or boots for me! If it can't be kicked off, it's not going on.
So, as I stand on the cool deck, (hey, that's what it's called, cause it's supposed to stay sort of cool when the sun is beating down on it - only it doesn't say warm deck, which would imply it will stay warm when it's freezing out...) Anyway, it's a cold deck today and I have to stand on my heels with my toes curled under so only the back of my heel and the tips of my toes touch the deck. I don't know why that seems better than just putting my whole foot down, but it does, and I'm betting I'm not the only person who does that.
Jack does his thing rather quickly when it's raining or chilly. He hates to get wet and/or cold. Rooney, on the other hand, takes her good old time; smelling the air and looking about at the squirrels in the trees and whatever else catches her eye. I am freezing in my flimsy t-shirt and shoeless. I do, however, have a cup of coffee in my hand. It is not as hot as I'd like it to be but will have to do.
Jack will stop and smell the flowers only when it's warm outside. |
Rooney, on the other hand, does what Miss Rooney wants to do. |
The cats are entertaining themselves with frozen worms they find on the deck. There are no lizards. I don't know where lizards go when it's cold, but it's not anywhere out in the open. Dash pretends the worm is giving him a hard time. The worm cannot because it is dead and solid as a stick.
This has nothing to do with today's topic - it's just a picture I took of the Rags looking adorable. |
Boo! has already harassed Copper this morning while I was taking care of lizard business - dropping in crickets, chopping kale and carrots, changing out the water bowl, etc. She managed to get behind the aquarium, which is where the cricket keeper resides. Fortunately (for me) she cannot tip the carrier over from there. She gives it the old Boo!-try, though.
I think it's adorable when she tries to get up to the shelf where the aquarium is. She hangs onto the ledge and tries to pull herself up. She reminds me of a kid doing pull-ups on the monkey bars. Anyway, Boo! is satisfied if she can get a good look, so I help her up and make room on the shelf. Even though she gets into more mischief than all the other fur-kids combined, and drives me batty sometimes (often) I think she's the cutest thing in the world! And she knows it.
