We'll get to the Valentine message in a bit. For now, I'm going straight for the yucks as in chuckles not gore. Our daughter came to visit. As we settled down to a cozy fire and a scary movie, she kept looking at us with a puzzled expression. While Andy and I are used to the various fly-bys and odd sounds, no one else is.
It comes as a surprise to visitors to see two Abys chase each around the house at warp speed. The shock comes when one or both manage to climb almost to the ceiling. Then there is always the possibility of a heart stopping crash. Most visitors to the Matchett household end up looking like Barney Fife.
What was that, Andy?!? |
At one point, our daughter turned to us and said, "How do you keep her alive?!" She was, of course, referring to Boo! Andy and I looked at each other and started laughing. He was the one who answered, "It's a full time job. And, thankfully, it's your mother's."
Yes, I have decided my main purpose in life is to keep Boo! alive. She is lightning quick, ultra smart and terribly ornery. And I love her with all my heart. Which brings me to the highlight of today - love.
One of my biggest fears in getting yet another kitty was the possibility of turf wars. Funny, but the cat fights have virtually stopped since Boo!'s arrival. It could be they are all so gob smacked by her they don't have time to get on each other's nerves. It could also be she has added so much entertainment value, who feels like getting upset over silly things like, "You're standing in my sun shine!" or "I was on Mom's lap first - get lost." or "You looked at me! Why did you look at me? I have to kill you now!"
Could it be our Tiny Dancer has brought more than heart stopping moments and belly laughs to our household? She is so small but has a huge heart. We should never underestimate the power of love.
While this particular day has some questionable roots, and is definitely fueled by greeting card companies, where's the harm in taking at least one day to acknowledge we all need love? If you have a significant other, this is a good time to stop and say, "You are still important to me. I wouldn't want to go through life without you."
If you are surrounded by friends, tell them how much they mean to you. If your life centers around the creatures in your life, give them extra hugs and kisses today. We all need love. If you don't have it - find it. Visit a nursing home where many residents are alone and would love the company. And always remember, animal shelters are filled with "love machines" waiting to wag, purr, chirp or hop their way into your heart.
